Its that time.
Time for Barb from The Everyday Home’s Dollar Store Challenge.
I give you the Dollar Store Challenge – 2 ways.
We were required to use a dollar glass candlestick and our creative minds to come up with a craft to share. I’ve decided that my 8 year old daughter Sophie and I will do these together each challenge. A way to craft, bond and have fun. We have also limited ourselves to using pretty much what we already have in our bursting at the seams craft room supply cabinet. So this is pretty much low budget for us.
First up we have Sophie’s Rainbow Loom bracelet holder. She makes tons of these bracelets and wanted a fun way to display her favorites.
Sophie took the candlestick and added clay to the inside for a base for her wire work to stick into. She then took wire and made a flower for the center. After that she took wire and wrapped it around a chopstick to get spiraled tendrils. She added beads to the tendrils for decoration. She also added some colored thinner wire to the flower petals. And then she hung her newest Rainbow Loom creations on it.
Now, I had one idea but it fell through as I didn’t have what I thought I did and since we decided to only use what we had I had to scramble for another idea. With Valentines day coming up and flowers such a big part of that day I thought- why not a bouquet of flowers?
I basically took lots of polyester ivory and other colored fabric and burned the heck out of my fingers to make tons of flowers. Then I took some green and created leaves. I glued the leaves into the candlestick – candle area. Then I added some tulle for fun. Next came a paper mache large egg shape. Doesn’t everyone have paper mache egg shapes in their craft stash? haha Once that all dried well I started gluing on all the flowers. And a flower bouquet was created. Now if only I had anywhere to go and carry it around. I am thinking Sophie will take it to play with.
Now please go over and see all the other creative things made from a Dollar Store glass candlestick. You might just be impressed with all the fun – thinking out of the box bloggers out there.

See ya next time, tammy & sophie
